Thanksgiving Arts & Craft Ideas for Kids
Posted in: Family Fun

Gobble, Gobble! Leaves are officially turning colors, the air is getting crisp, and holiday music is already playing on the radio?! :) Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and it’s time for some Thanksgiving-themed fun for the kiddos!

These activities will have your child reflect on what they’re thankful for,  while also getting crafty in turning household, outdoor, and food items into Thanksgiving creations.  These easy ideas are also a fun activity for you kids to do while you prepare for Thanksgiving festivities. Let’s have some fun and get started!

Colorful Turkey

Materials Needed:

  • Large and Small Paper Plate (If you only have a 1 size plate, that’s OK!)

  • Different–colored construction paper or crayons/markers

  • Scissors

  • Glue

  • Multicolored tissue paper, pom-poms, or modeling dough to match up with the construction paper, or you can have your child color plain tissue paper with markers.

This Colorful Turkey is perfect for your little ones to work on their color matching and fine motor skills. When your child is done gluing everything together, have them match the colored tissue paper or pom-poms to its related feather.

Pine Cone Turkey Scavanger Hunt

Materials Needed:

  • Construction paper

  • Tape or glue

  • Look around your backyard or neighborhood for pine cones for the body of the turkey.

  • Now look for bird feathers or leaves for the turkey feathers. (Or, your child can trace their hand on construction paper too.)

  • Get creative! Look around for anything else that you can complete the turkey with.

The Thankful Tree

Materials Needed:

  • Colored construction paper

  • Tape or glue

  • Crayons or markers

  • Using brown construction paper, trace and cut out a trunk for the tree.

  • Trace your hand to make multiple “leaves” for the Thankful Tree.

  • Once everything is arranged together or glued, have your family write down things they are thankful for.

Turkey Themed Treats

Materials Needed:

  • Pancake Turkey

    • Pancake batter

    • Bannanas

    • Blueberries or chocolate chips

  • Sandwich Turkey

    • Bread with your choice of lunch meat/cheese or PB & Jelly filling

    • Blueberries

    • Apples

(You can also get creative with any types of fruits or vegetables. YUM! :) )

  • Create your pancake batter, create a bigger pancake for the body and a smaller pancake for the head.

  • Use bananas and/or apple slices as the feathers

  • Use blueberries or chocolate chips as the eyes and beak.

  • Instead of pancakes, your child can also use oatmeal or a sandwich (without the crust) as the body.

Once your crafts are done, make sure to tag hand2mind on Instagram or Facebook to share the fun! We would love to see what your child created. :)
