Strands

There are six strands available for each grade level.

  1. Global Issues
    Using contemporary issues shared by countries around the globe, students make connections, debate their viewpoints, and consider thought-provoking questions about globally relevant topics, including—
    • Conservation of natural resources
    • Prejudice
    • Healthful eating
    • Pollution
    • Poverty
    • Fair Trade
  2. Social Studies (Photo Essays )
    "Slice-of-life" photo essays introduce students to children from faraway lands and facts about the places they call home.
  3. Language Arts( Fictional Stories)
    A variety of genres explore the values, art, and culture of each country. Selections ranging from traditional folktales, contemporary stories, and myths, to mysteries, plays, and verse, capture the essence of each locale.
  4. History (Biographies)
    Fascinating and dramatic retellings about important figures in each country’s history offer opportunities for students to think critically about key events and the impact one individual can have.
  5. Math
    Books cover a range of math concepts linked to facts about the country’s history, environment,
    and culture—
    • Estimating
    • Using number systems
    • Identifying patterns
    • Analyzing facts and figures
    • Sizes and shapes
    • Ancient number systems
  6. Science
    Science titles feature interesting facts about each country tied to a broad range of topics in the life, physical, and earth sciences.
