Common Core State Standards

The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in Mathematics include two components—

  1. Standards for Mathematical Practice
    (how we do mathematics)
  2. Standards for Mathematical Content
(what mathematics we teach and learn).

ETA/Cuisenaire's resources support your work to prepare for full implementation and assessment of the CCSS for Mathematics.

Correlations Search

Learn more about how to conduct CCSS correlation searches.

If you are looking for resources to support your transition, use "Search by Standards." Select from the pull-down menus to sort by Common Core State Standards, grade level, and subject. This sort provides a list of the CCSS**. By clicking the link, materials correlated to this standard, you see a list of ETA resources. Select a product to see specific resources correlated to this standard.

If you are an existing user of ETA/Cuisenaire resources, use "Search by Content." Select from the pull-down menus to sort by product, grade level, and subject. Next, click on view standards correlation. Use the pull-down menu to select Common Core State Standards. This sort provides a list of the standards addressed by the selected.**

**Please note that due to our wide coverage of the Standards for Mathematical Practice, you will need to scroll down to begin reviewing correlations to the Standards for Mathematical Content.

Supporting the Standards for Mathematical Practice

ETA/Cuisenaire supports educators in focusing instruction on the eight Standards for Mathematical Practice. These standards build a deeper appreciation of mathematics in students, transforming them into mathematicians.

In particular, Mathematical Practice 5 states, "Use appropriate tools strategically." These tools can include paper and pencil, calculators and other technology, and concrete models and manipulatives. All of ETA/Cuisenaire's resources are grounded in the effective use of hands-on instructional strategies.

ETA/Cuisenaire provides elements of all the mathematical practices in many lesson resources. The visual correlations links below show how the mathematical practices are embedded in lessons from various products.

Supporting the Standards for Mathematical Content

The Standards for Mathematical Content reflect both conceptual and procedural understandings. ETA/Cuisenaire's lesson resources provide learning experiences for conceptual foundations while other tools allow students to practice procedures and gain confidence.

Use the Correlations Search to identify alignment of ETA/Cuisenaire's K–Algebra 1 resources to the CCSS. If you already use our resources, you can search for CCSS correlations to the products you have. If you do not use our resources, the following suggestions will help you decide where to begin:

  • To support and improve teachers' use of manipulatives and instruction in problem solving, consider Hands-On Standards, Deluxe Edition; The Super Source; and Paths to Problem Solving.
  • To provide resources for small group/differentiated instruction and individual practice, explore CenterStage® Math and VersaTiles®.
  • To provide comprehensive support for commonly challenging topics, explore MeasureWorks®, FractionWorks®, AlgebraWorks®, and GeometryWorks®.
  • To support instruction outside of school time (afterschool, summer school, or parent involvement), explore Learning Place® for Afterschool Math, Summer Stars®, and Home Team Advantage®.

In the coming years, you will see new products released to support educators as teachers and schools move toward full implementation of the CCSS in 2014–2015.
