An Award-Winning Series of Six Videos for K–6 Staff Development.
These 20-minute videos offer advice and examples to help teachers provide effective elementary mathematics instruction using popular manipulatives. Teachers are shown, with students in small groups and whole-class settings, involved in lessons focusing on problem solving and implementing the NCTM Standards.
Five videos focus on one manipulative each (Base Ten Blocks, Pattern Blocks, Cuisenaire® Rods, Color Tiles, and Geoboards); the sixth video covers six other manipulatives (Unifix® Cubes, Multilink® Cubes, Color Cubes, Tangrams, Attribute Blocks, and Two-Color Counters). Accompanying each video is a comprehensive Discussion Guide that provides an overview of the lessons, guidelines for discussions, teaching tips, samples of students' work, and blackline masters of all worksheets used in the discussions. Perfect for—
- Staff developers or workshop leaders for school or district in-service sessions
- Teachers to develop lessons with manipulatives
- Principals to acquaint teachers, teacher’s aides, and parents with a "hands-on" approach to learning mathematics
