ETA/Cuisenaire Launches Global One Book, Our World Campaign in Honor of International Literacy Day
Teachers receive books from WorldScapes® Grades 3-6 series and connect online with Australian classrooms
VERNON HILLS, Ill. – November 8, 2006– Educational publisher ETA/Cuisenaire announced today that it will launch a campaign this September 8, 2006 to celebrate International Literacy Day, an annual event that began in 1967 to raise awareness of the importance of literacy across the world. Using books from the WorldScapes literacy series as a springboard, the One Book, Our World International Literacy Project will unite students from the U.S. and Australia to explore the meaning of text, share text-to-self and text-to-world reflections, and compare how cultural differences effect their interpretations. Participating U.S. teachers will be entered in a drawing to win a WorldScapes bookroom, valued at more then $5,300.
- Register at www.onebookourworld.com/usenter before September 30, 2006 for a free kit that includes three copies of a grade-level appropriate WorldScapes title and activity sheet (supplies are limited)
- Read the books and complete the activities with students, and take part in the online forum at www.onebookourworld.com between September 30, 2006-December 1, 2006
- Drawing for the WorldScapes bookroom prize will be held January 8, 2007
Classrooms in Australia will participate in the campaign, reading the same titles which are published in that country by Pearson Education Australia under the series name Snapshots. Teachers in the U.S. and Australia will be able to use the web site as a teaching tool to compare and contrast students’ reactions to the books.
WorldScapes is a 140-title literacy series leveled for grades 3-6 featuring global topics and world-class photography reflective of the diversity found in today’s classrooms. The books and Teacher Notes together help build comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, and a host of critical literacy skills. For more information on WorldScapes visit www.worldscapes.com.
