Henrico County Teacher Wins $10,000 Classroom Makeover
Who: Kara Mann, 4th grade teacher, Charles M. Johnson Elementary School, Henrico County Public Schools
What: As the grand prize winner in the national ETA/Cuisenaire Magnificent Classroom Makeover Contest, Ms. Mann’s 4th grade classroom will undergo a makeover this week. The prize consists of hundreds of new books, teaching aids, and hands-on learning materials provided by ETA/Cuisenaire, a publisher of supplemental reading, math and science materials. Members of a makeover team will transform the room after school today. The "new" classroom will be open to the media TOMORROW, Friday, September 29.
Ms. Mann’s winning essay--selected from over one hundred entries-- sought to fill the classroom with clean, new resources and a variety of "hands-on learning opportunities" in an effort to help all of her students succeed. The grand prize, which also includes professional development from literacy expert/author Miriam P. Trehearne for the entire district, is valued at $10,000.
