Where Playing Games and Learning Collide
New contest for teachers provides an opportunity to bring standards to life with a chance to win a Classroom Jeopardy! StandardsLink set and event for your school.

October 8, 2008 Vernon Hills, IL—Teachers and parents alike are constantly searching for new ways to motivate students to learn and to prepare for testing. One such motivational tool that has taken off in schools nationwide is Classroom Jeopardy!, a technology device that allows teachers and students to play Jeopardy! Games that feature all of the lights and sounds of the popular T.V. show, yet highlight and emphasize the educational content being taught in today’s classrooms.

Educational publisher ETA/Cuisenaire has taken this exciting learning tool a step further by incorporating state- and national-curriculum-based math, science and literacy content into the Classroom Jeopardy! Games. Classroom Jeopardy! StandardsLink for Math, Science and Literacy, were specially created by experts in state and national curriculum standards. The unique program aids students in mastering math, literacy and science content, and helps that knowledge remain prevalent during high-stakes testing. As students compete, just like Jeopardy! Contestants on T.V., each correctly answered clue takes them closer to mastering important skills that help them build confidence and the motivation to achieve and succeed. Students have fun learning, while teachers get maximum results from class time devoted to review and practice. A California-specific StandardsLink for Literacy is aligned to the California Academic Content Standards.

Research shows that hands-on learning tools like Classroom Jeopardy! StandardsLink are the most successful avenue to enhance any student’s skills. They build understanding and spark interest among learners of all ages, plus they make learning a fun, engaging process. Hands-on learning encourages multi-sensory development and allows students to make important connections between what they already know and what they can figure out. Educators agree this active, engaging process is an essential pathway to learning.

Now teachers have a way to put their knowledge to the test, along with the chance to win a Classroom Jeopardy! StandardsLink set and event for their school, by participating in the interactive online contest, Classroom Jeopardy! StandardsLink Competition for teachers, sponsored by ETA/Cuisenaire (www.etacuisenaire.com/classroomjeopardycompetition).

The contest, which runs from Oct. 6 through Dec. 29, 2008, allows K-8 teachers in the continental U.S. to answer Classroom Jeopardy! StandardsLink questions online. For every correct answer, they will be entered into prize drawings. New questions are posted every Monday and prizes are awarded throughout the contest. One grand prize winner, announced on Jan. 16, 2009, will receive a Classroom Jeopardy! Game unit, a Classroom Jeopardy! StandardsLink series of cartridges in the winner’s choice of grade levels, and a coupon for 20% off additional Classroom Jeopardy! products from ETA/Cuisenaire. The Game event will be hosted by ETA/Cuisenaire and will include fun activities for all students.

Teachers can register for the contest, and see a complete set of contest rules, at the Classroom Jeopardy! StandardsLink Competition for teachers website at www.etacuisenaire.com/classroomjeopardycompetition.
